Receive HRSA Oral HealthcareAward in 2019

La Maestra Family Clinic, Inc., a federally qualified health center (FQHC) in
San Diegofor being awarded a
$300,000grant from the
Department of Health and Human Services,

The new mobile dental unit will allow
La Maestra Family Clinicto reach individuals and families in need of dental care in neighborhoods across
San Diego County, where there is limited access to comprehensive oral health. In 2018, the center served 48,545 patients. Of these patients, 34 percent were under the age of 18. Additionally, 84 percent were living at or below 200 percent of poverty and nearly 70 percent were underinsured and utilizing
Medi-Cal, California’s Medicaid program, or some other public insurance. Less than one percent of patients were privately insured.
